Corry and Nadia

Corry works in public relations for the NFL. He talked about how he has to make the players and the organization look good in the media . At the end of his presentation, he gave us a challenge. He said to name ALL  the NFL teams for  Prize. It was so hard. Everyone was under pressure.  Basically everyone forgot to write down some teams due to their popularity streak. Basically, basketball would have been easier but Corry said football only.

Tiger exhibit

On Friday May21,2010, our class took a field trip to South Street Seaport in Manhattan. We went to a virtual tiger exhibit. We experienced what it's like to be a tiger. We talked like a tiger and we tested if we were as strong as a tiger. There were games like rock climbing. There was a short movie telling us about how tigers were tracked and observed. We learned a lot about tigers. It was a fun, cool, and educational experience.

This is part of the group seeing if they can sound  like a cub

John's love for legos!!!!!

For years and years I have  loved Legos! I have made a career out of Lego's since I was two years old! I make very interesting things with legos. I make boats, houses, and planes! Right now I'm doing a project with my legos and I have to make a house, pool, garden, boat, and a garage! I have actually won a lego contest
by making a tug boat in summer camp. My mom said that I should be an engineer when I grow up and
build houses, space crafts, and build green stadiums. I might become famous! I love Legos and I will love them and build them for the rest of my life!!!!!

PS. - (quick fact) Lego's help with your confidence, hand-eye-cordination, and imagination!

Ms. Hibbert attended a Lego art exhibit by Nathan Sawaya. Below is some of his work. Here is his website:
 http://www.brickartist.com/

I like this lego creation because when I saw this lego creation, I was amazed because this was very creative and I love swimming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like this lego creation because this creative lego builder made two bodies when one of them was dieing on the other persons arms. This probably took a very long time to build!

I thought that this creation  was very cool because the wall is made out of the legos and so is the man coming out of the wall!

I like this one on the bottom because the man is trying to get out the pile of legos  and the man and the pile are legos!!!!!!!

Staten Island

On Saturday May 15, Aham, Hunter, Malik, Hunters dad and Ms. Hibbert went on a trip to the Staten Island ferry. When we bordered the ferry we went to the deck of the ferry. We saw the Statue of Liberty and other ships. When we got off the ferry, we took a bus to a museum called Snug Harbor.

At the museum we saw sculptures and pictures of Lincoln. As we went into a room there was a flag that had 13 colonies and 34 stars which are states. After that, we went to a ship exhibit and we saw different types of ships. Then we ate lunch and we went to a Chinese Garden and it had words in Chinese. Afterwards we went on the ferry back to Manhattan.

We learned that Abraham Lincoln was born in the Illinois. He wrote the Emancipation Proclamation to abolish slavery. Abraham Lincoln was a two faced President because he went for both sides of the civil war. The trip was very fun.

This is the Verazzano Bridge. We saw the bridge while on the ferry. There was a lot of ships going under the bridge and to the other side. It was exciting.

This is a picture of Aham and Malik standing by the end of the ferry. You can't really see the faces because of the sunlight.

This is a tepee that is inside Snug Harbor. It was made out of paper and other artifacts. When you go inside there is a light and a lot of papers.

This is a picture of different pieces of pictures put together to make a very beautiful picture of a girl.

This a picture of a pink statue made out of paint and foam (that is yellow, but it was painted). The picture looks a little wierd.

This is a picture of Malik, Aham and Hunter standing in front of a writing that is wrote in Japanese. It is written with green ink.

This is a tiny fruit called pomegrant. It is very sweet and sour fruit. This is part of Lincolns home in Snug  Harbor.

Brooklyn Museum

On Saturday, February 13th, Ms. Hibbert and six of her students went to the Brooklyn Museum.

We had an amazing time. The students names were Vijay, Aham, Lucas, Hunter, Grant and Malik. The first place that we went was the show by Impact. The group impact presented a show on Black History. Impact is a group of primarily young people. They try to be leaders in their community, by using performing arts to inspire people. We also saw replicas of houses, paintings, and sculptures. The houses had huge dining rooms with old fashioned tables and clocks. The bedrooms had huge, old fashioned beds. The living rooms had old sofas and lamps. Next to each replica, there was a short paragraph explaining the meaning of each house.  The Brooklyn  Museum was amazing.

Black History Clip

Greensboro 4 clip
Scroll down to the end of the page to view the clip. This clip was about four young men who stood up for black rights.

These four men walked in as paying customers and sat down at the counter, knowing the consequences. It was illegal because in the past blacks were not allowed to sit at counters. The manager shut down the restaurant and an old white lady walked up to them and said I'm disappointed that it took you so long to do what you're doing. Then they told the manager that they will be back. Then they left.

These four men are sitting at the counter knowing the consequences for standing up for black rights.

Ms. Hibbert went to visit the Smithsonian Museum when she was in DC. On display, is a replica of the actual lunch counter. Here are some pictures from her visit:

 John enjoying his meal.

Ms. Cooper joined our celebration :)

Here is some of the delicious foods we ate:

My name is Francisco and these are Empanadas. They're a Spanish food. They have beef or cheese inside. They are fried. The other students loved them.
Hi, my name is Vijay Ramkissoon. I brought in a Guyanese food called pholourie. It is crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. It is made of split peas, wheat, flour, and a type of gravy.
Hello my name is Herzen Clerge and this is my fried pork. I am from Haiti and this is a food that is well known to my culture. It is a common food in Haiti, and it goes with fried plantains.

Hi, my name is John. I brought in golden rice and beans for our Cultural party. I brought in that kind of food because Im Puerto Rican and Puerto Ricans eat a lot of rice and beans.

Hi my name is James. My mom and I made it. The only reason I made it because  my family eats it a lot. There  is no special reason. It's  way too greasy.

I am Luigi Apollon. I brought in rice and beans. My grandmother  made this for the party.

This is an Australian dessert. It is called Pavlova. It was named after a Russian ballet dancer. It is chewy on the inside and hard on the outside. There is cream on the top. It was first made in New Zeland.  Pavlova is very popular in Australia.

I am Lucas and this is a coconut creme jello. It is made out of coconut milk and sugar.
I brought in flan. It is a Hispanic dessert that my family enjoys very much.
