From September to December I rehearsed for the Nutcracker. Then from December 22nd till January 2nd I performed in the Nutcracker. I played the role of the little mouse. The little mouse is one of the stars. So I was the show of the show. I was in the final bow. That means that I took a bow with all the soloist characters at the end of the Nutcracker. A lot of people came such as my mom, dad, grandpa, grandma , older sister, oldest sister, teachers, and my principle came to a show. My mom and older sister came to a rehearsal show. Then my mom, older sister, oldest sister, dad, grandma and grandpa came to a real show. Ms. Hibbert (one of my teachers) came to one of my shows. Ms. Segal (another one of my teachers) also came to one of my shows. Last but not least Mr. Arnold (my principal) came to one of my last shows
I was also in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. It was all fun doing and I wish to do it again.

The 2010-2011 school year is in full swing! Here are the 15 young men of class 5-2:
back row, left to right: Christopher, Tevon, Noah, Gordon
middle row, left to right:: Chidi, Shaiyan, Jimmy, Cameron, Ryan, Jaiden
front row, left to right: Joel, Raju, Steve, Destin, Stathi
I know...they are a serious bunch...ready to learn. The school year was off to a great start! Stay tuned for future posts about their individual personalities and what they feel they contribute to the class. As always, feel free to post comments!
Let's learn about them:
5) Hi my name is Jaiden.I am Puerto Rican.I brought the book Eldest and Eragon because so far in the year they have been my favorite books. It was pretty much about a kid named Eragon that finds a dragon...but he soon figures out that with it comes great responsibility. My favorite type of books are fantasy.I got these books at the end of September.
6) Hi my name is Tevon Ashley, and I am a 5th grade student of George Jackson Academy. On my presantion day I brought in Diary of a Wimpy Kid series that my mom bought from Barnes and Noble. It cost alot of money but since it was me she didn't care. Other things that I brought in were 5 wrestling action figures that I had when I was a little kid. My brother bought me 3 wrestling action figures. Another thing I brought was a bear that my brother got from a fair, I didn't name him though. The name of the wrestlers were the Miz, Batistia, Undertaker, Code Rhodes, John Cena, Hornsawgole,Chavo, Thriple H. I brought these things because my brother and my mom took money out there pockets to get things for me so that makes me know that they care about me.
7) Hi my name is Joel. I brought in my plush iron man toy, my bumblebee toy, and my drawing notebook. I brought these in because I used to watch the old transformers and iron man cartoons.I brought in my drawing note book because my dad taught me how to draw the first day I could write.
8) Hi, my name is Shaiyan Hossain. For my identity presentation, I brought in a lot of things. First, I brought in two Matchbox toy cars. I brought them in because I have been playing with toy cars since I was little. Next I brought in a Lego minifigure because I love playing with Legos. Lastly, I brought in coins from Bangladesh because they represent my native country, Bangladesh.
9) Hi my name is Raju Sawak. I brought in a white tiger, Spiderman action figure, chestnuts, and Lady apples. Lady apples are really small. I also went camping and my family and I were looking for wood and the guy we go it from said we could take as much chestnuts we wanted. So we took a lot. When we got back to the camp, we roasted them on an open fire. While we were roasting them, my dad sang a song called ''Roasting chestnuts on an open fire'' and we all pitched in to sing it. I really like Lady apples. My dad gets them from where he works. you only take about three bites and it is finished. Even though it is that small I savor it. I love them, I really do.
The Spiderman action figure is something that I had for a long time. I had it since I was in Florida. Well not all the time that I was in Florida, but most. I said that because I lived in Florida until I was about seven and now I'm ten. So back to the Spiderman action figure. I would make him do things he really can't. Plus I had him since I was small and I still have him now.
Last but not least my white tiger. it's actually my oldest sisters but I also sleep with it as she does. I really like that tiger because it is my oldest sisters and I love animals.
10) Hi, my names is Gordon Alexander and I am a student at George Jackson Academy. At the beginning of the year, we brought in items that represented ourselves. I brought in a cup from Dylan's candy bar, my collection of quarters from every state, my baseball glove, my baseball bat and a t-shirt signed by an executive for the Yankees. These items were very special to me because they were all given to me by the people I love.

Let's learn about them:
1) Hey my name is Cameron Vasquez. The object that i brought in was my dbz and bleach drawings. For example I drew ichigo and vegeta. Also I have original drawings mostly dragon ball z. I love drawing anime for some reason. i also brought a cool cow and my best pack of pokemon cards. I also brought in an eye ball in water. It is fake.
2) Hi,my name is Stathi. I brought in some tae kwon do stuff, a trophy, my drawing book, and a stuffed pikachu.I brought in my green belt because I thought the others would want to see my status. I brought my trophy because it was shiny and looked like real gold. Like my green belt, my trophy represents my tae kwon do status. I got the stuffed pikachu at an amusement park in New Jersey. I thought people would like to see my drawings, so I brought in my drawing book. That's the stuff I brought in, peace.
3) Hi, my name is Chris Guzman. What I brought in for my presentation were Yankee tickets, a Yankee poster, a hat and some wrestlers. I had brought the tickets because I went to a Yankee game the day before and it was my first game at the new Yankee stadium/playoff game. I also got the poster. The Yankee hat I brought was my first hat and is important to me because I collect hats. Lastly, I brought my wrestlers in because I love wrestling and I also collect those. That was my presentation.
4) My name is Steve Samroo. For my presentation, I brought in my Summer on the Hill T's. I brought in these T's because if I hadn't went to Summer on the Hill, I wouldn't be here in GJA. I also brought in my Jets football. This is because my jets football was the first football I got. I got it when I was only 3. The last item I brought in was a monkey. I brought in my monkey because when I was four, I snuggled with him. That's ME!

Corry and Nadia
Corry works in public relations for the NFL. He talked about how he has to make the players and the organization look good in the media . At the end of his presentation, he gave us a challenge. He said to name ALL the NFL teams for Prize. It was so hard. Everyone was under pressure. Basically everyone forgot to write down some teams due to their popularity streak. Basically, basketball would have been easier but Corry said football only.

Tiger exhibit
On Friday May21,2010, our class took a field trip to South Street Seaport in Manhattan. We went to a virtual tiger exhibit. We experienced what it's like to be a tiger. We talked like a tiger and we tested if we were as strong as a tiger. There were games like rock climbing. There was a short movie telling us about how tigers were tracked and observed. We learned a lot about tigers. It was a fun, cool, and educational experience.

John's love for legos!!!!!
For years and years I have loved Legos! I have made a career out of Lego's since I was two years old! I make very interesting things with legos. I make boats, houses, and planes! Right now I'm doing a project with my legos and I have to make a house, pool, garden, boat, and a garage! I have actually won a lego contest
by making a tug boat in summer camp. My mom said that I should be an engineer when I grow up and
build houses, space crafts, and build green stadiums. I might become famous! I love Legos and I will love them and build them for the rest of my life!!!!!
PS. - (quick fact) Lego's help with your confidence, hand-eye-cordination, and imagination!

Ms. Hibbert attended a Lego art exhibit by Nathan Sawaya. Below is some of his work. Here is his website:

I like this lego creation because when I saw this lego creation, I was amazed because this was very creative and I love swimming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like this lego creation because this creative lego builder made two bodies when one of them was dieing on the other persons arms. This probably took a very long time to build!
I thought that this creation was very cool because the wall is made out of the legos and so is the man coming out of the wall!
I like this one on the bottom because the man is trying to get out the pile of legos and the man and the pile are legos!!!!!!!

Staten Island
On Saturday May 15, Aham, Hunter, Malik, Hunters dad and Ms. Hibbert went on a trip to the Staten Island ferry. When we bordered the ferry we went to the deck of the ferry. We saw the Statue of Liberty and other ships. When we got off the ferry, we took a bus to a museum called Snug Harbor.
At the museum we saw sculptures and pictures of Lincoln. As we went into a room there was a flag that had 13 colonies and 34 stars which are states. After that, we went to a ship exhibit and we saw different types of ships. Then we ate lunch and we went to a Chinese Garden and it had words in Chinese. Afterwards we went on the ferry back to Manhattan.
We learned that Abraham Lincoln was born in the Illinois. He wrote the Emancipation Proclamation to abolish slavery. Abraham Lincoln was a two faced President because he went for both sides of the civil war. The trip was very fun.

This is the Verazzano Bridge. We saw the bridge while on the ferry. There was a lot of ships going under the bridge and to the other side. It was exciting.
This is a picture of Aham and Malik standing by the end of the ferry. You can't really see the faces because of the sunlight.
This is a tepee that is inside Snug Harbor. It was made out of paper and other artifacts. When you go inside there is a light and a lot of papers.
This is a picture of different pieces of pictures put together to make a very beautiful picture of a girl.
This a picture of a pink statue made out of paint and foam (that is yellow, but it was painted). The picture looks a little wierd.
This is a picture of Malik, Aham and Hunter standing in front of a writing that is wrote in Japanese. It is written with green ink.
This is a tiny fruit called pomegrant. It is very sweet and sour fruit. This is part of Lincolns home in Snug Harbor.
This is a picture of Hunter, Aham and Malik standing by the Chinese Garden looking at the fish.
